Epic Adventures & Exponential Growth for Every Youth
The mission of Scouting America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. Here in the Grand Teton Council, we are blessed by the incredible wilderness that we get to use as our classroom to help kids grow in confidence, character and grit.
Our time-tested programs start small and go big! In each, there are opportunities for your entire family to get involved. We welcome you and your family to make lifelong memories and friends, and make a positive impact on your community through Scouting with us.
Which Program is Right for Your Family?
Cub Scouts: Grades K-5
The Exploring program has a long history in Scouting, beginning in the 1930s as the Senior Scout program and evolving into today’s career-focused Exploring program. It is designed to help youth explore careers, build leadership skills, and grow personally through real-world experiences.
The Scouting America Exploring Program serves youth ages 10–20 and is part of Learning for Life, an affiliate of the Boy Scouts of America. Youth take part in hands-on activities, connect with local professionals, and explore a wide range of career fields—from skilled trades to aviation. Organized through Exploring Clubs (ages 10–14) and Exploring Posts (ages 14–20), the program helps young people gain practical skills, confidence, and direction for their future.
Scouts BSA: Ages 11-17
Scout Troops are open to youth from 6th grade until age 18. The Scout motto is “Be Prepared,” and the slogan is “Do a Good Turn Daily.” Scouts learn and practice classic outdoor and life skills such as knots and lashings, map and compass, fire building, cooking, swimming, canoeing, camping, hiking, and more.
A Scout Troop is organized into small teams called Patrols, each with 5–8 Scouts. Troops meet once a week and usually go on a monthly outing. Scouts can also attend Summer Camp and participate in high-adventure trips.
Every Scout has a leadership or support role that is elected or appointed and changes about every six months, giving everyone the chance to learn both leadership and teamwork. Scouts advance by earning ranks and merit badges, which introduce them to a wide range of skills, careers, and recreational activities.
The highest rank in Scouting is Eagle Scout, a significant achievement that represents years of effort, leadership, and service.
Venturing: Youth 14-20
Venturing is a co-ed program for young men and women ages 14 to 20 that brings youth, adult leaders, and community organizations together in a meaningful and engaging way. The program emphasizes adventure, leadership, personal growth, and service, with crews built around shared interests such as camping, hiking, youth ministry, and the arts.
Through Venturing, participants develop strong leadership skills, gain confidence, and grow personally while becoming valuable leaders and role models for others. Many Scouts BSA members also choose to join Venturing. The program helps prepare young people for the future by teaching practical skills they can use in school, at work, and in everyday life—while also strengthening friendships and teamwork.
